LA GRANDE VADROUILLE

La Grande Vadrouille is a French film realized by Gerard Oury, release in 1966.

This film, with the duet Bourvil - De Funès, was :

• During more than forty years the greatest success of a French film on the hexagonal territory with more than 17 million spectators to the cinema, before exceedbeing exceeded by Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis of Dany Boon in April 2008.
• During more than thirty years the greatest success of a film on the hexagonal territory, all nationalities confused, before being exceeded by Titanic in 1997.

♦ Synopsis :

In 1942, during German occupation in France, the plane of five British aviators is cut down by Flak with the top of Paris. Its occupants jump then in parachute. The first lands inadvertently on the footbridge of a house painter, Augustin Bouvet, the second in zoo of Vincennes and the last with Garnier operated a grumbling conductor, Stanislas Lefort. The two French must then hide the aviators before accompanying them towards free zone so that they are repatriated towards The United Kingdom. Pursued by the Germans and in particular by major Achbach, the fugitive ones will know many adventures at the time of their voyage towards Bourgogne...

♦ Around the film :

• Comic duet had already been joined together for film The Corniaud two years earlier. It was to be reformed for La Folie des grandeurs, but Bourvil died prematurely.

• Left in December 1966, the film added up for a long time the greatest number of entries in France with more than 17 million sold tickets. Exceeded by Titanic of James Cameron, 20 million entries in France, it is finally dethrone by film Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, of Dany Boon, also on the way of dethrone Titanic.

• The film was an international success, including in Germany where it was the first comedy presented at the screen devoted to Second War world. It was even retained for a foreign nomination with Oscars in 1967.

• It is still possible into 2005 to admire the carcass of the car having been used for the final cascade with sailplane... Very close to the aerodrome of Mende ! In fact, there are even two carcasses since the scene was turned to two recoveries.

• Louis de Funès/Stanislas Lefort directs the Hungarian Walk of Damnation of Faust of Hector Berlioz with the real movements which should have a leader. For that, it repeated three months in front of the ice of its living room and took some lessons with the director of the national Orchestra. At the end of the first repetition, the orchestra of Operated rises and acclaims it in "typing bows against violins, flute against desks". Indeed, this applause was completely impromptu.

• Gerard Oury had sold to the producer Henry Deutchmeister a scenario where two binoculars make cross France to the crew of a British bomber cut down by Flak. The realizer recovered the rights of the project and substituted Bourvil and De Funès for the two sisters. "Principal roles: two girls? And then? I will transform them into men!" This original scenario remains only the sequence of Old people's homes of Beaune.

• The scene during which Louis de Funès finds himself on the shoulders of Bourvil and is trotted by this one was not envisaged at the origin in the scenario and was pure improvisation of the two artists. But it had as well success as it was useful for the realization of the poster of film, and is regarded today as one of the largest scenes of the French comic cinema.

Stanislas Lefort, in full repetition with his orchestra, apparently delighted, congratulate his orchestra which applauds him : "No it is me (he applauds his orchestra). Sirs it was very well ! It was very well ! You it was indeed ! You it was very so-so. Say to me you, we did not hear to you ! Pay attention, pay very attention ! (to all the orchestra) No but listen to : I have a personal conception of the work, it is not enough taken in heart, it is not rather proud! Of the pride good blood : Papapa Papa Papapa ! You make for me gnagnagni ! It is some porridge all this ! It was not bad it was very bad : here is exactly ! Then we start again in 17."

The first remote transmission was made the 1er January 1976 on the first French chain. On the whole, the film was diffused thirteen times on the first chain and eleven times on the second chain. It was also diffused on other chains.
